Hook Agency alternatives, with the numbers on the table

Hook Agency is a Minneapolis marketing agency for trades with published pricing and a strong review base. Whether it's your best fit depends on what you're buying: their scale and content machine, or a Texas-based shop with published measurements and month-to-month terms. Here's the measured comparison, with sources and dates.

What Hook Agency publishes about pricing

Credit where due: Hook publishes real numbers, which most agencies won't. As of 2026-08-27, their pages state Local SEO from $2,800 a month, an AEO offer at $4,000 a month, PPC management from $2,000 a month, and websites at $12K–$24K billed monthly (hookagency.com, page-stated). That transparency is genuinely useful when you're comparison-shopping.

What the reviews say

Their Google Business Profile showed a 4.9 rating across 174 reviews when we measured it on 2026-08-27 — a strong base. Their Clutch profile showed no reviews at the same measurement, alongside a stated $25,000+ minimum project size. Both facts, stated neutrally, with dates.

What we measured on their site

Their home page scored 68 on mobile Lighthouse performance with an 11.5-second LCP (Lighthouse CLI, single run, 2026-08-27). Their own pages state a $1M revenue minimum and a $3M–$15M sweet spot for client fit. Our method is the standard Lighthouse CLI on mobile emulation — run it yourself on any page, theirs or ours, and check us.

The AEO line item

Two dated facts, side by side. Their published AEO guidance still recommends FAQ schema: “Adding Local Business and FAQ schema helps Google and other AI tools understand your services clearly” (their answer-engine-optimization post, checked 2026-08-28). Google’s changelog states FAQ rich results ended May 7, 2026. We’ll leave the adjectives out and let the dates talk.

To be precise about what that is and is not: the quote above is from their blog post, not from their $4,000-a-month AEO offer. Their pricing page lists AEO at $4,000/mo, and adds “$2k when added to an SEO package” (checked 2026-08-28). We have not seen the offer’s scope, so we won’t tell you what is in it.

How these numbers were measured (and how to re-run them)

Every number above is reproducible. Lighthouse is a free tool built into Chrome — open DevTools on any page, theirs or ours, and run it. Review counts are public on Google and Clutch. Pricing is on their own pages. We recorded each value with its date because these records change, and a comparison without dates is an opinion. When their pages change, this page changes, and the updated date at the top moves with it.

When they're the better choice

When Hook Agency is the better choice: they have a bigger team, a longer track record, and a huge content library — around 1,500 blog posts and roughly 30 trade hubs at measurement. If you want a large national roster agency with published pricing, they're a real option.

When MCANIX fits better

When MCANIX fits better: you want a Texas-based shop that writes Texas operating-conditions content, publishes its own measurements with dates, runs month-to-month with no long-term contract, and keeps every form under five fields. Our four claims are the same everywhere: 20+ projects delivered across Texas, 15+ years of combined founding-team experience, a 4.9★ rating across our founders' client work, and 0 long-term contracts.

Three commitments you can hold us to

  1. Every competitor fact on this page is dated and sourced; we update the page when their pages change (the updated date above is load-bearing).
  2. The “when they're the better choice” section is mandatory on every comparison we publish.
  3. We don't take referral fees for steering you either way. If Hook fits, hire Hook.

What we don't do

We don't take referral fees for steering you either way. If Hook fits, hire Hook.
